Food diet and representations of dental caries published in a traditional brazilian newspaper

ABSTRACT Objective: To apprehend the representations of dental caries present in a Brazilian print media, considering different historical periods, with emphasis on dietary factor issue etiology and disease prevention. Methods: This is descriptive documentary research study carried out from analysis digitalized printed editions Jornal do Brasil, published between 1891 1990, available for consultation electronic portal collection periodicals entitled Digital Library. For search, terminologies ‘cárie dentária’ dental’ (both meaning caries) were used. The platform displays pre-determined time periods. considered all journalistic genres, composing or not main prominent theme. data found analyzed qualitatively. Results: In total, 675 occurrences registered term 33 dental’. had multiple complex variations. object reconstruction process generated categories: prevention, public policy etiology. topic food diet significantly crossed entire span studied remained frequently linked to tooth decay, sometimes related etiology, prevention disease.
